The last decades, however, have\u003cbr\u003eseen the development of a new economy based on information and\u003cbr\u003ecommunication technologies and with a related shift in organizational\u003cbr\u003eideals from large hierarchical structures to networks of self-governing\u003cbr\u003eunits – a change sometimes labelled the third industrial revolution.\u003cbr\u003eThis development has meant new possibilities for the deployment of\u003cbr\u003epsychological knowledge in organizational management.\u003cbr\u003eThe present study takes as its geographical starting point the\u003cbr\u003egreater Stockholm area in Sweden. Through a variant of multi-sited\u003cbr\u003efieldwork it investigates the distribution of psychological know-how\u003cbr\u003ein and through different institutions – such as school, work life,\u003cbr\u003ehealth care – by which the average ‘worker-citizen’ is supposed to\u003cbr\u003eacquire a ‘psychological toolbox’, thus becoming a kind of amateur\u003cbr\u003epsychologist or therapist, ready and able to take responsibility for\u003cbr\u003ehis or her own productivity, well-being and health.
