Special attention in the method section has been given\u003cbr\u003e to the role of the interpreter in research.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e For some time the research areas of underutilisation of mental health care among\u003cbr\u003e immigrants, and that of children of immigrant parents suffering from mental\u003cbr\u003e illness, have been dominated by a vulnerability approach. Results from the\u003cbr\u003e present thesis show that this one-dimensional picture of immigrants as a category\u003cbr\u003e associated with psychopathology ought to be balanced with that of strength and\u003cbr\u003e resilience.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e It was also found in the studied group that underutilisation of mental health care\u003cbr\u003e is partly due to the perception of mental conditions as normal life crises, rather\u003cbr\u003e than illnesses. Thus, instead of focusing on health care resources, interviewees\u003cbr\u003e conveyed their need for greater social and financial support.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The results of this study suggest that there is a lack of extended possibilities,\u003cbr\u003e for both adults and children of immigrant background, to express their own\u003cbr\u003e needs outside a predefined context.
